Fashion Revival

I recently had some portraits done wearing my mother's clothes.  These were outfits that had special meaning to her and she wanted to see me in them, too.  It was fun! Of course, I'm not the same build as my mother. She was tall and slender, but amazingly enough, they fit okay on me.  My mother wore the blue velvet dress for my father because they both loved the song "Blue Velvet" by Bobby Vinton.  I think she wore the green dress on their honeymoon.  And the gray suit was handmade for her on their honeymoon in Hawaii.  And it's rumored that my father had a matching one; which they wore together.  So sweet.
Oh! My next post I'll show photos, (if I can find them) of them wearing these outfits.  That'll be neato, too!  I'm glad to have parents that are still in love after 41 years of marriage.

Special thanks to my friend Darla Cosby, a great photographer!  You can check out her website here: http://darlacosby.com/

My Favorite Photographer

Just for fun I'd like to share with you some photos done by one of my favorite photographers: my sister-in-law, Alyson Cantrell.  She has the most amazing feel for it.  Check these out:

"Girls in white dresses with blue satin sashes..."

Well I'm almost done with my custom re-make dress.  Can't hardly wait to show it to you.  But, in the meantime, my wedding is shortly approaching!  So I thought we'd play a little game; trust me, it'll be super easy.  Can you guess my wedding theme, based on these inspiration boards I've gathered from the far reaches of the internet?  Enjoy!

Pictures and Poetry

I Sing
by Emily  Dickinson

I sing to use the waiting
My bonnet but to tie,
And close the door unto my house No more to do have I
Till his best step approaching,
We journey to the day,
And tell each other how we sung
to keep the Dark away.

Wander Unknown

My mind is somewhere far away lately.  We all fear the unknown, don't we.  But, I'm still learning to just hold on.  There is One to whom nothing is unknown.  And since I have given my life to Christ; I am like a child holding to the Father's hand just taking the next step for I can't see the road ahead.  It goes against my nature; my desire to control and order everything around me.  But that is God's domain.
I just love the colors of Fall.  When I took Missy for a walk today, for some reason I noticed every small detail: the trees heavy with their bird's harvest of berries, a fallen brown brittle leaf and the smell of oaks in the air.  I cannot make any of it alter to fit my mood; it's lovely and I am thankful.

Scenic Inspiration

Praise the Lord, I'm now engaged to the most wonderful man in the whole world!
So I thought I would share with you some wedding inspiration that I've been gathering.  I love all things Irish and so I want to have little celtic touches here and there.

Planning a wedding is  a journey that causes you to re-align your priorities.  There are a lot of lovely ideas out there and it can be overwhelming.  But thankfully the Lord is using it to remind me what is really important.  I want our wedding to honor Him above all and to be most about the sacred covenant we are making before Him.  It is more about the promise we are making before God.  The promise to love the other person just as Christ loved us when He laid down His life, for those who believe in Him.  And this will be my main theme.

Hearst Castle

I grew up in California but I'd never been to Hearst Castle until a few weekends  ago.  I expected a normal size Victorian mansion with some castle-like features. Boy was I wrong!  It was overwhelming to look at.  I enjoyed taking photos of it.
Side balconies on the great house.  Hearst was a cowboy and called the whole place "The Ranch".

Beautiful medieval doors.
The view looking back down toward the entrance from the guest house landing.
Wouldn't it have been fun to wear this dress to a lavish party in the 40's?

The lady lanterns inside the indoor theatre.
The fence surrounding the outdoor pool.
One wall in the guest house which had 4 bedrooms.

Autumn Comes

I love Autumn in California.  We stopped in a little town on our trek to Southern Cali and found this adorable little market.  I wanted to buy one of everything: gourds, apples, honey, bread, fudge, goat milk lotion and Apple Pie!

R.I.P. Camera...Look SHOES!

Well my camera died when my mom and I got caught in a rogue wave/riptide.  Thank the Lord, it was the only thing that died!  So I'm not sure how I will do my regular blog posts, but that's ok.
Here are some fun shoes I've seen while perusing some magazines and the internet.  What do you think?  Would you wear these?  What would you wear them with?
Discuss.

What are you doing?

For those of you not familiar with fashion blogs and "outfit posts" I wanted to explain.  The intention is not to show off, but to share with other bloggers who are interested in fashion, clothing and sewing.  It's kinda like a do-it-yourself, average people, community fashion magazine.  Here are some of my favorite fashion bloggers: (click on the pics to check out their beautiful blogs)
Enjoy!
Thank you for bloggin on in :)
