I'm excited for new things, this Autumn. I did manage a few simple sewing projects to help me keep cool. <br />
I took a billowy, thin, cotton muumuu and shortened the hem and sleeves and added some fun contrasting ball fringe around the yoke. It was perfect for all those sweltering humid days that I can't seem to adjust to, here in the southeast.<br />

Stay tuned for more posts coming soon. Go ahead and raid your local thrift store for frumpy dresses and see if you can give them a new life!</div>

My wonderfully creative friend, Jen, gave me the exciting challenge of making her a version of this J. Crew dress. </div>

She picked out the fabric and I finagled a brown paper pattern using the
original dress. It was more difficult than I anticipated, with some
interesting pleating features on the sides. Thankfully it came together
in the end. And here she is looking great in it!</div>

I dislike trying on clothes. I'll hold something up in the thrift store and just guess if something is going to fit me, then buy it. At $1-2 a pop, if it doesn't fit I can donate it. I fell in love with this blue top, but alas, when it came home with me, it shrank. Or I bloated, more likely.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

I thought and thought and schemed and pondered, but couldn't figure out a way to make it work. Finally, I realized I could add strips of coordinating fabric on all the side seams! Whew, it actually worked! <br />

Can you believe how blue the sky is? It was another lovely and wild, North Carolina day. This idea has started a dangerous precedent. How many ill-fitting blouses will I now brazenly purchase, knowing I can slap some strips on it's sides? I shudder to think.<br />

I love the ocean. Both my grandfathers were sailors and I think I've inherited a connection to the sea. I can't go too many months without, at least, sitting on a shore with my feet in the sand.</div>

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">"Anne thought she left great happiness behind her when they quitted the house;

convinced of sailors having more worth and warmth than any other set of men in
England; that they only knew how to live, and they only deserved to be respected
and loved."</span>~ Jane Austen, Persuasion<br />

I drilled a hole in a shell that I brought back from our honeymoon at Carolina Beach. Neon is really big right now. I didn't have any neon paint on hand, but, I used a bright orange acrylic to dip it in, so I could show you. Then I attached a wire and jump ring to it, and attached that to a gold chain from my tangled bead box.<br />

I also have an obsession with t-shirt scarves. I've made over 20 that I am going to give away to some teens that I'll be speaking to about style. But I keep pulling them out of the bag to wear myself. I promise I'll put them back. :) Give me a shout out below if you want me to demo how to make them. They are very easy. This is my first experiment with drawing on one with, yes, a Sharpie! And I'm quite happy with it.</div>

It's so easy you won't believe it. Maybe someday I'll try to make soap from scratch, but for now I decided to try the melt and pour version. First, I purchased 2 pounds of Organic Goat's milk Melt and Pour soap from this lovely little ebay store: </span><a href="http://stores.ebay.com/lorasbeautyshop" target="_blank"><span style="font-size: large;">Lora's Beauty Shop</span></a><span style="font-size: large;">.</span><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: large;">Then I followed the directions I found in this book: </span><a href="http://www.amazon.com/Essentially-Soap-Handmade-Scenting-Coloring/dp/0873418328" target="_blank"><span style="font-size: large;">Essentially Soap: The Elegant Art of Handmade Soap Making</span></a><span style="font-size: large;">...for melt and pour soap.</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: large;">First, cut the 2 lb. block in 1 inch pieces, I did about a quarter of the block at a time.</span> </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh79ONRyAGcNHWhHHF43-azdeGYnkFybt36thFPk2wFOaMYxkMMCJG-KnHY94LInA23kkhMMvPqzVL6DvORG6Ox4xBwHIadtwbhQMVvRuhW0dYPtLE6wVBJ58OG9CilX3HhuwktSYhe4Q/s1600/soap1.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="428" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh79ONRyAGcNHWhHHF43-azdeGYnkFybt36thFPk2wFOaMYxkMMCJG-KnHY94LInA23kkhMMvPqzVL6DvORG6Ox4xBwHIadtwbhQMVvRuhW0dYPtLE6wVBJ58OG9CilX3HhuwktSYhe4Q/s640/soap1.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: large;">Then place in a glass microwaveable bowl and microwave for 30 seconds at a time, until liquid. (My microwave melted it in 1 minute.)</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhZ71WZZEKD9xr0E1l5Bdr0vIiHx98XgylVlbRVoo0dYkytneAmbDjio-tLS-MnT9yWlGCvsKle-PXmjxl0-ViDf_zarbwVBrS8JDxOh-d1mNmXtOqY0BcEP2g4hAAnNoTTXNOopJMRrw/s1600/soap2.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-size: large;"><img border="0" height="428" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhZ71WZZEKD9xr0E1l5Bdr0vIiHx98XgylVlbRVoo0dYkytneAmbDjio-tLS-MnT9yWlGCvsKle-PXmjxl0-ViDf_zarbwVBrS8JDxOh-d1mNmXtOqY0BcEP2g4hAAnNoTTXNOopJMRrw/s640/soap2.JPG" width="640" /></span></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: large;">Then I added 4-5 drops of Lavender essential oil and stirred. It depends on how fragrant you want your soap. I think I probably could've added a few more drops, but it was pleasantly light when completed. The soap begins to cool and harden quickly, so I advise having everything ready ahead of time.</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgx6YYCnXPDdokaC929Wrj37tJAvDh1ABP09qofv7DQHAq4F6WcKdMOZsvgEyJEuwH-IJCwV1lJQVubLjyoUAa0-4BKpE-IqEnGPTdztMGjfppzcBML5f5k4ipn7u9xqUchFO7_49E1YA/s1600/soap3.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="428" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgx6YYCnXPDdokaC929Wrj37tJAvDh1ABP09qofv7DQHAq4F6WcKdMOZsvgEyJEuwH-IJCwV1lJQVubLjyoUAa0-4BKpE-IqEnGPTdztMGjfppzcBML5f5k4ipn7u9xqUchFO7_49E1YA/s640/soap3.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: large;">Next, I added food coloring to get this lovely lilac color. For purple, add 2 drops of red and 1 drop of blue and stir until blended in.</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh2Tft3iGpNPwdCVUjfSpCIoEbUwkLO5fLHkwfS9MSK5VGTqNxXBE_s9T8gxx_qpiz7V1qTJxyYDP9Ov6DbHQopN5T5Av_KUolFqa-uprKWw08Sy-qRD8J3Luu-EskKBNmkug3U-4oHtA/s1600/soap4.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="428" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh2Tft3iGpNPwdCVUjfSpCIoEbUwkLO5fLHkwfS9MSK5VGTqNxXBE_s9T8gxx_qpiz7V1qTJxyYDP9Ov6DbHQopN5T5Av_KUolFqa-uprKWw08Sy-qRD8J3Luu-EskKBNmkug3U-4oHtA/s640/soap4.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: large;">This step is optional, but, I added some ground lavender for an herbal look. Just make sure it's fine enough that it won't give anyone a sliver when they wash. Add as much as you want.</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhZvrDweCh2juDyE5ooNcfqRemGU8KJImeAM6W-lXuv6_KMPhAlUcVz_KCLcVcTouZx1ZzdjJBzMK_7olaHC0G8qEDHUQciIomgQJqhyf0t-ePUn4ef74OYHAicjDHS2Keor4bjnl7Afg/s1600/soap5.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="428" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhZvrDweCh2juDyE5ooNcfqRemGU8KJImeAM6W-lXuv6_KMPhAlUcVz_KCLcVcTouZx1ZzdjJBzMK_7olaHC0G8qEDHUQciIomgQJqhyf0t-ePUn4ef74OYHAicjDHS2Keor4bjnl7Afg/s640/soap5.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: large;">You can purchase nice looking soap molds from most craft sources, but I used this bean sprout container from the grocery store instead. I ended up pouring in about 7 ounces of the liquid soap. This creates one nice hunk of a bar, if you like that. After set, I decided to cut them in half for easy shower handling.</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgy9R8STG2YPNxGctR9PV4ImXPF5n7s_ZBcguSqRR3TW1t3r21Ur8673JBCIIW6J_weyhGVqf99ukHZ0tonQiTwtJC_ui_Jk_P8jAWmGFrcAolxQgaaVPaM8jPgPKzsDWAcepSwV1mazQ/s1600/soap6.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgy9R8STG2YPNxGctR9PV4ImXPF5n7s_ZBcguSqRR3TW1t3r21Ur8673JBCIIW6J_weyhGVqf99ukHZ0tonQiTwtJC_ui_Jk_P8jAWmGFrcAolxQgaaVPaM8jPgPKzsDWAcepSwV1mazQ/s640/soap6.JPG" width="428" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: large;">After only ONE HOUR, it becomes your very own handmade bar of organic lavender soap! It ended up costing me only about $1.25 for each bar! You'll know this is a steal if you've scoured the internet, like I have, for Organic soap! I just love having my own customized, Purple Pinafore, healthy-for-me soap!</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgxBIZJtjlQJinEXrUPYctIq3CjFumyew5mzofxIkIioiwqB-huvjIqYD9rHrIHtxAWo9BpJNG75L__DSlw_f0N-MTTip5Q9a-qIP7xDEebI1XtplH6pCqwkA1n2beGVPaJSZW2HgmnKA/s1600/soap7.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="418" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgxBIZJtjlQJinEXrUPYctIq3CjFumyew5mzofxIkIioiwqB-huvjIqYD9rHrIHtxAWo9BpJNG75L__DSlw_f0N-MTTip5Q9a-qIP7xDEebI1XtplH6pCqwkA1n2beGVPaJSZW2HgmnKA/s640/soap7.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: large;">It lathers up very nicely and because of the goat's milk, it has a lovely silky feeling in the suds. I love knowing that I'm doing good to my skin instead of infusing it with nasty chemicals and then stripping it of it's natural oils.</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhRbShOvVI3jFll6qinYIFca8f1ojRnRwhkEIK8437sNbq6QEnCeJaj764s87mXEZ2BStzh6IsBBflbcPRZFQOQLdOnROsER-LHfJiw2prXmRw-c2vr6Mgav0ywmfVxt5yEDZCfqxRqJQ/s1600/soap8.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="460" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhRbShOvVI3jFll6qinYIFca8f1ojRnRwhkEIK8437sNbq6QEnCeJaj764s87mXEZ2BStzh6IsBBflbcPRZFQOQLdOnROsER-LHfJiw2prXmRw-c2vr6Mgav0ywmfVxt5yEDZCfqxRqJQ/s640/soap8.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: large;">Pleae let me know if you have any questions! (for your listening pleasure)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
You know those adorable dresses and skirts you see at the store? The ones you try on and then realize they have a mini-skirt? Yeah, I had some of those. Thankfully, I have a mom back in CA that misses thrift shopping with me. She sent me a bunch of cute clothes, but since I couldn't try them on they were too small. <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgaGw1KZutL1trYd1ABvoerU3f16DpCFGdRtCAu1qgaGMNKxPW8YfA2lWlA9K4LmXmYMKwBJESx54-7NGhLh0JKD2iSi967jEsK9SY0zmLpvtk5swobYr465GnACAmvUmCQKV5vNNbFZA/s1600/pinktulips.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgaGw1KZutL1trYd1ABvoerU3f16DpCFGdRtCAu1qgaGMNKxPW8YfA2lWlA9K4LmXmYMKwBJESx54-7NGhLh0JKD2iSi967jEsK9SY0zmLpvtk5swobYr465GnACAmvUmCQKV5vNNbFZA/s640/pinktulips.JPG" height="428" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
So I took 2 dresses and made them into one. A "2fer"! The coral colored dress was a short tunic style dress I had bought and I attached the skirt from another too-small dress underneath. The brown plaid skirt was a itty-bitty sundress; so I took the skirt off of it and added the bottom half of another brown skirt. I'm excited to try this technique on some other clothes that are wasting away in a huge pile of unfinished projects and fabric.</div>

Today I went for a walk without a coat and it was invigorating! Someday I hope to have a greenhouse, like my neighbor's, to start my little sprouts in. The birds were joyfully soaring around in the warmth above me. Next time I've got to carry the longer range lens to show you their beautiful colors. I found my vibrant belt, that I'm wearing as a scarf, in the bottom of a pile of fabrics at my favorite place: <a href="http://www.scrapexchange.org/" target="_blank">The Scrap Exchange</a>. If anyone of my readers can tell me what country it might be from, I'd be very grateful. <br />

I think I mostly like it because no one bats an eye when you combine pink and red. I'm always trying to sport the combination at other times of the year, too. I made this paper flower wreath to put on my front door. I didn't have wire to form a wreath so I just cut out some cardboard and used the wires on the back of the tissue flowers to attach them. If you think you've seen these flowers here before, you're right! My dear friend Stacy made them for our Wedding Shower back home. They were also used for wedding decorations, and to decorate our getaway car. I'll probably use them for various projects until they disintegrate because I enjoy them so much. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Well, I've got to go now, hubby and I are going for BBQ. She just happens to be my aunt Ruth. Here she is on Thanksgiving, modeling her "Turkey's in the Oven" apron, made just for her with vintage fabrics. Thank you, Aunt Ruth, love you!<br />

They asked what readers would do with a yard of their brightly colored "African Queen". I answered right away because I had admired the design of the fabric on their website. The statuesque profile of the pattern reminded me immediately of my niece. I said I would make a hair kit for her mom to keep her hair care items in. I finally finished the hair kit. It includes a tote bag, accessory bag, a kerchief and a headband.<br />

So I thought I'd share a few of our best wedding photos by the fabulous <a href="http://www.adammoweryphotography.com/" target="_blank">Adam Mowery</a>.<br />
My husband and I met online, I'm from CA and we now live here in his home state of NC. I wanted a simple vintage Irish wedding but added a few Southern touches, too. I'm wearing my mother's dress, that I altered to fit my 50's style. I loved the little chapel where we held the small ceremony, it's hard to find anything like that where I'm from. My niece and nephew stole the show as the adorable flower girl and ringbearer. And David and I were so pleased with the music that was all done by <a href="http://www.barrowburn.net/" target="_blank">Barrowburn</a>, a local Celtic band. And I almost cried when my brother led us all in worship and added a custom line to David's favorite worship song. All that stress was for naught, because the Lord brought it all together perfectly. No, it wasn't my dream wedding but it was a simple and sincere celebration and committment before the Father. AND I just happened to get the most loving husband in the history of the world!<br />

I'm not able right now to assemble it into words appropriate for my blog yet. But, I feel so undeservedly privileged to fellowship with Christ in my suffering and watch Him turn my pain into something good. Friend, if you don't know Him, you are missing out on a different kind of life, that I dearly want you to know. <br />

My recent miscarriages and chronic illness have kept me from doing as many creative things as I normally like to do and share with you. But, I thought I'd post a photo of one thing I made recently.<br />

Merry Christmas!Larahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00524674212011986183noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3536925126350311459.post-84719794389867016812011-09-27T10:23:00.000-07:002011-09-27T10:23:25.058-07:00WET PAINTI bought my office chair at a yard sale for $8 this summer and it works great. It was just WAY too boring in all black. So I decided to spruce it up a bit. I recovered the back support with some great fabric that a friend had also found at a yard sale, for $5 for 4 bolts. It was very easy to recover; I just unscrewed the 2 screws in the back and then glued the yellow fabric over the old fabric and screwed it back on, tucking the fabric in around the edges. I thought about recovering the seat also but I wanted something more creative than a matching seat. And since I've been enamored with bees lately, I thought I'd paint on some yellow stripes! I just used some clear packing tape we had, to guide the paint as you can see here.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjhxtLVB1Mwo9oYigiyhQesCJhwVtKBLCgxh2faGLR9zUhNkTQ23nJHohy9twhXsaVN19dtwuYrvAUzH8iJSxgnOb-12cmy3CsaEF0a1_cjdo39Zor1DssPYcmS5GUkzlnO1yMIikEYhA/s1600/DSC_0008+%25282%2529.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjhxtLVB1Mwo9oYigiyhQesCJhwVtKBLCgxh2faGLR9zUhNkTQ23nJHohy9twhXsaVN19dtwuYrvAUzH8iJSxgnOb-12cmy3CsaEF0a1_cjdo39Zor1DssPYcmS5GUkzlnO1yMIikEYhA/s320/DSC_0008+%25282%2529.JPG" width="214" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Then I got out my 99 cent acrylic yellow craft paint and started painting my stripes. I went into the other room to watch TV while the paint dried. A few hours later I came back and the paint was already dry but the stripes seemed paler than I had wanted, so I added another coat of paint. I went back to another activity until the paint dried. Soon after that I was talking to my hubby and then as he turned to leave I noticed something on the back of his shorts. Well, I figured out why my stripes were pale. And I realized that one should not assume that one's spouse is aware, and should always put up a "WET PAINT" sign when painting furniture. My sweet hubby had decided to work on my computer while I was in the other room and had inadvertently added bumblebee stripes to the posterior of his nice khaki shorts! It's great for a visual stimulation junkie like me. But, I have found MANY great ideas from it that will save me lots of dough in the long run. Somewhere I saw the idea of making a scarf from a sweater sleeve. I had bought this ugly orange fuzzy sweater at the Thrift Store to cover a pillow for Fall. I don't look good in orange but I do love it so I thought I'd make a scarf out of it.<br />

I'm totally visually oriented and I never forget an inspiring outfit. Here are some movie images that have inspired me.<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiIdivshdKcw7TcS6CcMAvF54Fr5kl21L78rUEQVM6ojke8GIqQfvbxVYYos8R-avNvr-sSQDIRUpxYZm5WVi7tfX9hB3TBcn9mIZLuELaTYEfWfMUQREGEOoz2TN1A32gIkCkOb3swtA/s1600/chitty-chitty-bang-bang-original.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="360" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiIdivshdKcw7TcS6CcMAvF54Fr5kl21L78rUEQVM6ojke8GIqQfvbxVYYos8R-avNvr-sSQDIRUpxYZm5WVi7tfX9hB3TBcn9mIZLuELaTYEfWfMUQREGEOoz2TN1A32gIkCkOb3swtA/s640/chitty-chitty-bang-bang-original.jpg" width="640" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">I LOVE Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. The art design of the whole movie is great. Truly Scrumptious had the best outfits of the whole cast. Isn't it romantic?<br />
</td></tr>
</tbody></table><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiV316TqYrWpTom5JZa5Ysf1UW0PzJ7Ta2XGOvpxhXVZkYv-ZjfvPxw3MpWzDGw0a9uJe50JZAyuXUm9F7MZ3RukyRrdFNOpmTgyZyILgfgr37zqXMS2NwqQvIhGEUpJ4J_lcuQfLWp9A/s1600/Baroness+Suit.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="486" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiV316TqYrWpTom5JZa5Ysf1UW0PzJ7Ta2XGOvpxhXVZkYv-ZjfvPxw3MpWzDGw0a9uJe50JZAyuXUm9F7MZ3RukyRrdFNOpmTgyZyILgfgr37zqXMS2NwqQvIhGEUpJ4J_lcuQfLWp9A/s640/Baroness+Suit.jpg" width="640" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Ok, there was a lot of great design in the Sound of Music that was focused on the main character, but I adore this suit worn by the Baroness. I love the way the polka-dotted fabric is wrapped around her waist with a conspicuous bow and then it's topped with the cropped jacket. It is so flattering to her figure.<br />

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Have you seen Charade, with Cary Grant and Audrey Hepburn? It's fantastic. Audrey's wardrobe is the epitome of 60's mod but still oh-so-elegant.<br />

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">I have no idea how my brother knew I'd love a leopard print hat but he bought me one years ago. I still love it, although Miss Hepburn looks rather more stunning in hers.<br />
</td></tr>
</tbody></table>What movie images inspire you? Have you re-created any movie costumes for every day wear?<br />
And now I have a request, dear readers. I scoured the internet looking for the dress featured below and that photo is all I could find. Remember the dress that Dottie wore in Pee Wee's Big Adventure? I think it must've been vintage but I'm not sure. I've never seen anything like it. It was a basic 50's shape, full skirt dress and I think it had black triangles at the waist. If anyone can find a link to more images of this dress, I'd be so happy. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEibegZhHZ5eZCf3VEe7tllo0zV_0c1asf6Xj-zypGiWaYA7ZRbkJS50S6tkXrJJPp_penMwXKk42hyphenhyphenf1zhX646Wo8IwMxswYa3GaKpDhCUHARF5gC3oN4Gm2u30YMUsBIMERRGZQC8FmQ/s1600/images.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEibegZhHZ5eZCf3VEe7tllo0zV_0c1asf6Xj-zypGiWaYA7ZRbkJS50S6tkXrJJPp_penMwXKk42hyphenhyphenf1zhX646Wo8IwMxswYa3GaKpDhCUHARF5gC3oN4Gm2u30YMUsBIMERRGZQC8FmQ/s640/images.jpeg" width="585" /></a></div><br />

She was desperate for some exercise. As I strolled through the mist and fireflies, a rabbit ran from our approach. Then I looked up into the night sky because something caught my eye. I realized after a few moments I was watching another fascinating creature that I hadn't yet seen, since I moved here. It wasn't a bird up there silently flying around in the dark. They were small bats, catching their insect meal. Sometimes it feels like the Lord is bringing all these amazing animals around me, just because He knows how much I get a kick out of them!<br />

My aunt won the drawing for her own custom retro half-apron. Consequently, she asked me to make the apron as a surprise for her soon-to-be daughter-in-law. I always love sewing surprise gifts! I was told the bride's favorite colors and I went to work. What came out of it was a very bright fun piece with an added heirloom. I used one of my grandmother's (and her soon-to-be grandmother's) tea towels as the detachable towel on the front. I'm told she loves it, so I'm very glad. Here are pictures of it before it was sent and then a picture of Hannah modeling her new apron. I hope it sees lots of cookery and baking in the years to come as sweet Hannah marries my dear cousin. Congratulations you two!<br />

"An artist." Well I guess I've finally grown up. I'm thoroughly enjoying working with my friend, Linda, at <a href="http://sweetpeasantiquesandgarden.com/">Sweet Pea's Antiques.</a> It's always a delight to talk about projects and new ideas with other creative people. She gave me the opportunity to show her my projects recently and then proceeded to buy every single one! I'm so grateful. I thought I'd share some pictures of what she bought and some pictures of their new temporary home at the shop (until they go home with someone). <a href="http://www.facebook.com/pages/SweetPeas-Antiques-Garden/383573175024">Sweet Pea's</a> is a pink dreamland of fun antiques and crafty whimsies. If you live in my area, it is a MUST-SEE.<br />

It ties around the mother's neck so she can have her hands free to pick up and dry the baby easily. Can you help me come up with a name? It was fun and easy to make and my friend liked it. To make it, I basically just sewed to pieces of terry cloth together; as you would if you were making a pillowcase. Then I sewed all the way around, an inch from the outside seams to keep the fabric from rolling and appliqued the whale on. Comment with your name ideas below.<br />
Thank you!<br />

I wanted our master bathroom to remind us of our honeymoon at the beach. So I painted a picture on the wall of a seashell using pearl paint. Then I took shells that I had gathered on the beach and strung them together and framed one of them. It made a very outdated bathroom feel more peaceful and put-together.<br />
